Discussion:
Task versus Task

What is the difference between a task and an event?

I understand that I could more or less use them interchangeably, but
from a concept standpoint what are the differences.

I use events when I need to schedule an interview or a lunch or payday.
I use tasks to schedule projects and work that has to be done.

So is a task work to be done while an event is time reserved for other
things to be scheduled.

Thanks

BTW, I found this from 4 weeks ago.

Calendar Help has a glossary: http://calendarhelp.mozdev.org

Here are the entries for event and task.

event - A calendar entry that represents something that will happen
whether you take action or not. For example, meetings and birthdays are
events.

task - A calendar entry that represents some action by you. For example,
writing a report and visiting a client are tasks.

I had to search for it. This information is not available at
www.mozilla.org. Why it's at the URL described above I'll never know
since Mozilla.org doesn't make reference to it, ever.

Thank you very much.

Don;

Thanks for posting these definitions and where you found them. It's
especially nice to have them from the calendar's upcoming helpfile.

Jeeez, what's the diffence between a task and an event... didn't you
even hear about the latest invention?

dic·tion·ar·y n. pl. dic·tion·ar·ies

1. A reference book containing an alphabetical list of words, with
information given for each word, usually including meaning,
pronunciation, and etymology.
2. A book listing the words of a language with translations into
another language.
3. A book listing words or other linguistic items in a particular
category or subject with specialized information about them: a medical
dictionary.
4. Computer Science.
1. A list of words stored in machine-readable form for
reference, as by spelling-checking software.
2. An electronic spelling checker.

[Medieval Latin dictinrium, from Latin dicti, dictin-, diction. See
diction.]

OR should others do ALL the work for you?

Ok, I know when I've asked a stupid question.
Stupid questions are rare, our point is that the answer to your question
is out there. Usenet-wise would mean that one tries all resources first
and then, if you still can't find the answer, post in the appropriate
newsgroup.

Chances are that you WILL get a serious answer then.

I think one should be able to turn a task into an event. I may have to
call someone, but then I am likely to make an appointment with them.
