Can't create new network calendar in Lightning. Regression?
Thunderbird nightly. Lightning nightly. Both trunk.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre)
Gecko/20081220 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0b2pre
Works for me using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20081220 Calendar/1.0pre (BuildID:
20081220044707). For testing I subscribed to the German calendar
from <http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/holidays.html>.

Please provide detailed information at "Can't create new network
calendar". For example does this mean you can't you open the New
Calendar wizard? Do you see any calendar messages in the Error Console?

On the second page of the wizard (Format & Location) when i create a
CalDAV calendar with Google calendar ID of my shared calendar
(***@group.calendar.google.com), the "Next"
button is disabled. I'll put a screenshot in mozilla.support.screenshots.

No errors in the console.
You could try to get more output from the caldav component by
creating two advanced boolean preferences named "calendar.debug.log"
and "calendar.debug.log.verbose" and set them to true.

Are you able to create other calendars, e.g. local or ics calendars?

OK. Did that. Still no entries in the Error console when trying to
create a Google CalDAV calendar. I think the Error console is filled
only *after* the operation is performed, and since the "Next" button is
grayed-out, I can't perform the operation. Catch-22.

Are you able to create other calendars, e.g. local or ics calendars?
Yes, I was able to create an "Algeria Holidays" using
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/caldata/AlgeriaHolidays.ics

But with that I got a very long list of "errors" and "messages" in the
Error Console. I don't know how to copy-paste them all, so here are some
examples:

*Error*

Error: a._updateVisibleText is not a function
Source File: chrome://global/content/bindings/textbox.xml
Line: 210

The link goes to here:

<constructor><![CDATA[
var str = this.boxObject.getProperty("value");
if (str) {
this.inputField.value = str;
this.boxObject.removeProperty("value");
}

// this.editor may not be initialized yet in
// bindings that inherit from xul:textbox, so
// do this after construction
setTimeout(function (a) {
a._updateVisibleText(); <--- *highlighted*
a._setNewlineHandling();
}, 0, this);
]]></constructor>

Is your email address everything you pus in the location field?
According to
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358#sunbird,
you need to use https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/ [ your Google
Calendar email address ] /events.
The field isn't entirely visible on your screenshot, but it looks like
there is at least no trailing /events.
I can't imagine it ever working without the full url, and thus this does
not look like a regression.
Note that using caldav for google is pretty new on the google side, and
didn't get much testing from the lightning/sunbird side. I suggest using
the google calendar provider.

Damn. You're right. And I "knew" that. Only your *first* google
calendar's ID contains your Google e-mail address. The following
calendars have a different, much longer ID. The length and complexity of
this ID caused me to forget about the
https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/ ... /events part. :-[

So, by not letting me enter an invalid address, Lightning is "smarter"
than I thought (and smarter than me).

Thanks for pointing me in he right direction! :-)

Now I have to go to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457876
and correct my "me too" comment.

I'm using: Shredder/3.0b2pre
You're using: BuildID: 20081220044707

Could that make the difference?

I was using a Sunbird nightly build. Most of the calendar code is
shared between Sunbird and Lightning therefore the behavior should
be the same.

I think I found the bug# for this:

*Cannot create new network based calendar*
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457876

It's a CRITICAL REGRESSION and still UNCONFIRMED, so I hope a developer
will have a closer look.

Disregard that bug. I found the "bug", and it was "I".

Lightning works as expected (although it would be helpful if it threw a
warning that the entered address is incorrect or "impossible").
